3 Surprisingly Central Places to Buy Acreage Near Spokane

For many, buying acreage is the very definition of the American Dream, a sentiment that hasn’t changed much in almost 250 years. But the conveniences that come with city living are hard to walk away from entirely. The good news is, you don’t actually have to. You really can have your acreage and your city, too when you live in one of these surprisingly central communities:

#1 Saddle Mountain Ranch, Spokane

Saddle Mountain Ranch is a unique gated community offering lots of 20 acres and larger. Residents enjoy the privacy that comes with living on a large parcel of land, while still enjoying a real sense of community. Living on acreage in the pristine forest means you’ll be able to hike, mountain bike, ride horses and ATVs, garden, and more. This is a great place to own horses, dogs, chickens, and goats and to truly live among nature. And when you’re ready to head back into town, it’s only about 10 minutes up the road to Suncrest and Nine Mile Falls, and only 35-40 minutes to Downtown Spokane and all its awesome events.

Highway 291 runs right through the middle of Suncrest and serves to connect Saddle Mountain Ranch back to Spokane proper. Being that such a significant highway bisects the town, it’s no surprise that Suncrest has really grown into its own in the last few years. While there was always a bar, a pizza joint, and a drive thru coffee stand, among other things, Suncrest now has a Rosauers grocery store, an independent pharmacy, multiple dine in and drive thru restaurants, a gym, physical therapy office, salon, chiropractor and medical/dental center, as well as a brew house. And another 10-15 minutes brings you back into the heart of Spokane. Saddle Mountain Ranch’s close proximity to the city makes it ideal for those who want to live in the country and commute in to work.

Saddle Mountain Ranch sits within Stevens County and feeds into the Nine Mile Falls School District. Lakeside High School services just over 500 students with 28 full time teachers. Lakeside High School participates in the AP program.

Large lots, gorgeous forest views, great schools, and a close proximity to both Suncrest and Spokane make Saddle Mountain Ranch an ideal location for those looking to escape the city without sacrificing the city conveniences. Lots are currently available for purchase in Saddle Mountain Ranch and come with special forest tax benefits.

#2 Roosevelt Lake, Davenport

If you’ve ever dreamed about having a lake house, then look no further than Davenport. This quant area is known as the “Gateway to the Lake Roosevelt Recreation Area” and is located off of Highway 2. Davenport has both full and part time residents, making the area perfect for everyone, whether you’re looking to make this your permanent residence or just a weekend getaway. When you buy acreage on Lake Roosevelt, you get the full lake experience: boating, swimming, water skiing, hiking, ATV riding. Davenport even has a skate park, a water park, and a community garden.

The ease of access from Davenport is almost unparalleled. Davenport and Lake Roosevelt are just off HWY 2, which connects to US 90, the major thoroughfare that connects Seattle to Spokane. Fairchild Air Force Base and Spokane International Airport, two huge employers in the area, are mere minutes away off Hwy 2. The incoming Amazon facility will also be close by, and will be bringing around 1,000 jobs with it. From Davenport, it is only a short drive to Downtown Spokane and all the events, like Hoopfest, the Bloomsday race, and more. Head North and you’ll quickly arrive in Leavenworth, Washington’s very own Bavarian Christmas town. Stay the course for a couple more hours, and you’ll be in Seattle, the Gateway to the Pacific.

Davenport School District has an elementary, middle, and high school. Davenport Senior High is ranked #29 in the entire state with a staggering 97% graduation rate. The school also offers the AP program.

#3 Western View Estates, Spokane Valley

Western View Estates is an exclusive gated community in Spokane Valley that allows homeowners the ability to buy acreage while still being minutes from everything in Washington and Idaho. Land in Western View Estates comes with stunning views of the mountains and Downtown Spokane, while being entrenched in lush, green forests. Wildlife is plentiful, and it is common to see elk, deer, and wild turkeys on your property. Build the home of your dreams on 20+ acres of forested beauty.

The Spokane Valley is located on the eastern side of town, on the way to Idaho. This central location gives residents of the Valley the best of both worlds - they can just as easily participate in activities in Downtown Spokane as they can at Silverwood Theme Park just outside of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Western View Estates is only 12 minutes away from some of the best shopping in the state at Spokane Valley Mall. Take a short drive and you can be relaxing at the gorgeous Coeur d’Alene Resort, or escaping for an unforgettable weekend ski trip at Schweitzer Ski Resort. Looking for some sun and sand? Lake Coeur d’Alene offers swimming, boating, and camping, all just a short car ride away.

East Valley School District services Western View Estates. East Valley High school is larger, with over 800 students and a student to teacher ratio of about 19:1. The school has an impressive 92% reading proficiency rating and a 90% graduation rate.

Lots are available for purchase in Western View Estates, and have underground power.
